Behind the boom: Danny talks filming in public spaces on BBC Radio Wales

This week, our very own Director and SFX Supervisor, Danny Hargreaves joined Jason Mohammad live on BBC Radio Wales to talk all things explosions, filming logistics, and why creating spectacular effects in public spaces is as much about planning as it is about pyrotechnics.

The conversation was sparked by the Spiderman shoot in Glasgow last weekend, where the city was transformed into a Hollywood action set – a scene Danny knows all too well. With Real SFX’s extensive experience filming in public locations, he shared how productions can work safely and seamlessly in busy environments while still pulling off jaw-dropping effects.

💥 One fun moment? Danny recalling how we blew up West Ham’s old stadium for the film Final Score, starring Dave Bautista and Pierce Brosnan. It was a brilliant sequence to work on, and as a die-hard Chelsea fan, Danny couldn’t resist the irony of blowing up a rival team’s ground (strictly on screen, of course!).

Danny also gave listeners a sneak peek into the exciting (and still top secret 👀) projects Real SFX has in the pipeline – from high-end TV dramas to large-scale features, all proudly made in the UK with local crews, sustainable practices, and that trademark Real SFX creativity.
